Johnny O'Bannion

Get this: Johnny O’Bannion, the Infected entertainment reporter, has a new website! I know, I couldn’t believe it either. Not sure who he wrangled to get it built, probably swapped some street drugs for some kid’s HTML services. After all, the Canyon is almost completely run on a barter economy. Truth is, I don’t know the background story, but I do know O’Bannion is updating the site with abandon! So go there and drink in the wisdom. Take in the smog-shrouded Hollywood scene you can only get from one vantage point, The View from the Canyon.

Joey, long my trusty sidekick, celebrated his 25th birthday the other day. That’s like 278 in bird years. A real milestone. I think fondly back on all the strange times Joey and I have shared, that one time at a UFO cult compound in Washington State when things went horribly awry on so many levels notwithstanding. But that’s another story for another time. I think most fondly back on when you could get Joey to do almost anything, when he was a fresh-faced (well, that may be going too far) intern excited by being a cubic zirconia in the media glitz. Now, Joey is a man, and I think it would be difficult to force him to do some of the horrible, really just awful, things he once so willingly partook in. With that, I give you these wonderful photos I recently stumbled across of our dear bird being duct taped to the freight door of the TechTV studios in San Francisco. Oh, those were better, simpler times…

Happy birthday, Joey.

I’ve got some neat news! Tonight at 7:30 EST, on the “World’s Premier Jazz Station,” Jazz88 WBGO out of New York City, the show WBGO Journal will run a smart little feature about our culturally significant podcast, Infected by Martin Sargent. As a longtime NPR aficionado, this is a real thrill! Gator, Joey, Johnny O’Bannion and I are all terribly pleased. Just goes to show how highbrow this show truly is.

Turns out veteran NPR reporter and swinging cat Jon Kalish is an Infected fan and he stopped by the Sarge Shack a while back to record us recording and get interviews. And he did a really great job on this piece.

So please tune in to Jazz88 tonight at 7:30 EST if you live in New York, or listen to it online at www.wbgo.org

Sorry for the late notice, if you miss it, hopefully there will be an archive.

Infected on NPR, it’s your tax dollars at work!
